Happy Saturday everyone,
Today I'd like to share just a few still life photos with you that I've worked on.
Crosswords is the first image. I took it on a flight en route to Portland, OR. The unsuspecting subject didn't notice I had snapped a shot of him working diligently on the days crossword puzzle. The side sunlight spilling in through the window, along with the wide range of tonal contrasts and the textured hair of his hands made for an interesting photo from my perspective.
As I was eating a scrumptious meal at a local Italian restaurant, I noticed the nostalgic European look of an empty table after the patrons had dined and left. Armed with my iPhone only at the time, I snapped Old World Dinner. The strong differentiation in the contrasts of the window light and the chairs shadows helped lend a nice sense of depth to the photo. The tussled table, leftover dinner check, and textures in the background wall and tablecloth all interested me and reminded me of what an old Italian cafe would look like. The only thing that was missing...wine glasses!
Tree Stump in Lake was taken early one morning as I settled into my secret fishing hole. The fog was so thick and the only thing I could see was this stump protruding from the water. Thankfully, I carry my camera most fishing trips and I shot the image in high resolution. I'm betting this scene would've been much lower quality and WAY more difficult to focus on had I only had my iPhone, especially considering the available low light. I'm particularly proud of the minimalistic approach I took to create this photo. Almost every range of black, white, and mid-tone is present from top to bottom through the image.
